PRELIMINARY REMARKS

(part two)

I have studied and practised magick for a little under 50 years, and one of the things I learned when working with Liber AL and the English Qaballa was to concern myself with what the fundamental principles were from a human standpoint, rather than those rather noisy divinities jostling for position in the macrocosm and microcosm.

² What really matters to us, what are the fundamentals? - because whatever they are, they must be the prime movers in creation.

The Quantum principle which says that the material plane cannot exist without life to witness it is, to me, one of its most profound statements; because it means that life had to be present at the creation of the manifest universe. Indeed Crowley's words 'the method of Science, the aim of Religion' have seen their synthesis in modern times as Quantum physics and mechanics, where science and spirituality meet.

In the beginning there had to be NOW for the beginning to have a focus; there also had to be TIME in which the Now could function; and there had to be LIFE to observe them, for manifestation to occur and develop.

Everything is born of LIFE, NOW, and TIME.

In AL by means of EQ we find that the values of LIFE, NOW, and TIME are 68, 24, and 93. When one looks at the correspondences of a number one must use discrimination. We begin by looking through the words to find the one that is the highest expression of the number, the word that belongs to Kether; and work down the Tree with the rest of the words, what belongs to Chokmah, Binah, and so on, until we have some idea of the occult virtue of the number.

For instance NOW=24=GLASS: glass belongs to Yesod. Glass is a hard transparent material that is not in fact solid but a super-cooled liquid, that we see things through. On a higher level NOW=24=GOD allows us to see the universe; so we can say that 24=NOW is the medium that we see things through.

The primary principles of 68, 24, and 93, in magickal spirituality are 68=JESUS, 24=GOD, and 93=UNITY, DIVIDE, MOTHER and VIRGIN.

If we unite the two principles (magickal and scientific) we get

JESUS=68=LIFE,

GOD=24=NOW, and

MOTHER VIRGIN UNITY DIVIDE = 93 = TIME.

The trinity of TIME, NOW, and LIFE, and that of GOD, JESUS, and the VIRGIN MOTHER are resonant of the same principle.

² God is Now but is not limited by it.

² Jesus is Life but is not limited by it.

² Unity is Time but is not limited by it.

These are the fundamental principles of the universe, as the early Christians found. This was why they dumped all the old Gods. If you really want to get things done magickally it's much more effective to deal with the most powerful living factors in the universe: LIFE, NOW, and TIME: and their names JESUS, GOD, and the VIRGIN MOTHER.

These are the entities to be invoked at the beginning of every ritual. In the Abramelin system for instance one is made aware of the essence of life that one is, and with it we find the Eternal Now without whose permission no God can be invoked, and no spirit commanded.

We use meditation to find the essence of ourselves which is life, the life that is in us and everywhere. Jesus gives eternal life, because he is eternal life and that life is in everything. When we contact the life within ourselves, we have access to the essence of all life, Jesus: sorry fellas, but that’s the way it is, nobody gets to NOW (GOD) except through Him, the essence of us all.

It is through our individual life that we reach Eternal Life, the life in everything.

We can therefore use our own life to influence all life, specifically and generally: that is High Magick.

We can ask Jesus/Life to intercede on our behalf with the Eternal Now that is God: that is mysticism.

LIFE, NOW, and TIME created everything, and we can contact them if we obey their rules. If one can bang together something resembling a pure heart the Eternal Trinity is ever available.

I don’t mean one has to go wobbling round with a pure heart all the time, that would be somewhat fatal. For the purpose and duration of the work one must have a pure heart, anything else is sorcery, and sorcery drives one nuts. The spirits that sorcerers invoke will persuade them that they are going through all kinds of initiations and consequently gaining all kinds of powers but the truth is that they are using their own personal energy to invoke a spirit and when that energy runs out so do they!

It is only when we have created a space in Now in which an invoked entity can subsist that it can live out its specific destiny. We have to get permission of the living medium on which creation sits before we can expect to deal with archetypal forces.

It will be found that different archetypal systems rely on one or other of the Trinity to function, so that particular aspect has to be revered first. For instance astrology belongs largely to time so it is She that is invoked primarily; usually though her mundane chakra of infinite space, the goddess Nuit, or the various forms of Mara (as in the old aeon).

Having invoked Life, Now, and Time, and had our work sanctioned, we can go on to invoke whatever we choose in the certain knowledge that we can call on the essence of Life to get us out of it. There is no devil in Hell that isn’t subservient to the life within it, if that Power is called upon. The important point is that one must call upon that Power to intercede; if you don’t call upon the essence of life then matters will take their course, the usual madness and death will ensue, better luck next time.

I know this from experience, I’ve invoked dodgy stuff that has obsessed me and damn near driven me crazy, and I’ve gone through weeks of mental and emotional agony before it dawned on me to invoke Life and the giver of life to help me out of it - and he helps as he promised that he would, “he that believeth on me shall have eternal life”.

All archetypal entities belong to the structure of reality, it is only later that they affect creation.

The Word of God is calculated thus: 24(=GOD) + 34 = 58 = ZODIAC. The signs of the Zodiac have their source in the structure of reality, it is only later that they use the mundane chakra, and express their natures through the planets themselves. That is why both tropical and sidereal astrology work, even though the positions have long ago moved on their original imprint in reality remains as vital as ever and their effects remain evident to all.

We have the ZODIAC=58 and the Zodiac is the word of God/Now.

GOD=24 and its word (24+34) = 58 = ZODIAC, HADIT.

Therefore Hadit is the Word of God.

The word of the Word is Life. 34 (=FOOL) + 34 = 68 = LIFE.

Life=Change=Jesus=68. Life is change but it is 93 that defines that change.

It could be said that time is the prime mover of the trinity, she causes change (= 68 = LIFE) to occur.

Time is the mother of life.

TIME=93.

When you find 93 in a system you know you are in trouble.

93 caused the whole thing to kick off in the first place for reasons of her own. It isn’t possible to predict what 93 will do.

Life and Now obey and create laws. Time makes them up and breaks them as she goes along. One only has to get involved with the moon in Libra/Scorpio to find that out.
