INTRODUCTION#3

Since Crowley received Al there have been several attempts to find the key to the curious numbers and letters of Verse 76 in chapter 2 without anything convincing appearing. Attempts to find an English Qaballa also met with little success. Crowley created an interpretation of the I Ching using English letters without success of any consistent conviction. During the period since its reception many occultists such as Kenneth Grant tried to derive a consistent philosophy out of the work again with very limited success. There are parts of the work that reflect Hindu Hebrew and other philosophies but at the same time hits out at all their sacred cows rendering the interpretation ludicrous. It wasn’t long after Crowley’s death that the factions started creating a great deal of irrational bitterness between the various protagonists - Kenneth Grant Marcello Motta and the Californian O.T.O. Kenneth Grant did his best to evaluate Crowley’s work and quite a few scholarly interpretations are available that came very close to the truth. Motta was just silly and irrational and was more interested in staking his claim to the leadership of the O.T.O. than anything serious of a contributory nature. The Californian O.T.O. took a detached view of the whole thing which was commendable, but they added nothing to the Crowley interpretation.

It wasn’t until 1976 that a significant move forward was made with the discovery of the English Qaballa. This Qaballa was derived magically from Al although with hindsight all the instructions for finding it are clearly set out in the work. From this Qaballa the answer to the secret of 2:76 was found to give a remarkable cosmology that reflected the philosophy of the whole work. This philosophy is concealed in the Book of the Law to be found by anyone who studies the qaballa in connection with the text. Indeed we have a qaballa that reveals a creation model that in its turn gives an Astromagical system without parallel in modern occult system.

There is a strange phenomena associated with 93. It produces a strange species of madness. When one’s relations between people were very friendly this turns into a strange hostility. The individual afflicted seems perfectly rational and then suddenly changes and behaves totally

irrationally and with great hostility. This happened within Crowley’s organisation and in every Thelemic organisation since Crowley. There is the initial unity of purpose within the group, there is friendship comradeship then the whole thing explodes individuals who were once honourable become scoundrels, the meek become mad dogs. The rational becomes totally insane. Friends become enemies filled with loathing and hatred for their former friends. A small brown dog came into the garden it was at first fawning and friendly suddenly it went from wagging its tail to baring its teeth and growling without any apparent cause. This is the phenomena personified. This strange crazy spirit had possessed a dog. This is most assuredly a Scorpio phenomena. The nature of the madness in humans is the same as this dog’s. People behave rationally like the dog and then suddenly turn into irrational maniacs saying the strangest things and behaving in a way conducive only to their estrangement from the group of which they are members.

That this force is 93 there is no question. The question is what possible value can this phenomena be. It destroys the very thing that created and sustained it. The result to any Thelemic organisation is ruinous, members turn against each other with a passion that is tangible. There doesn’t seem to be much hope for any Thelemic group until this force is understood and dealt with. I can’t think of many scientific parallels apart from that hold too much power for their containers and explode. Entropy is useless in describing this phenomena. In magick the ordeal X phenomena is this experience. One becomes obsessed by one’s greatest weakness to the point and beyond madness, to survive one must recognise this phenomena and deal with it. the way in which one deals with it defines whether one passes the ordeal or not. The mad dog in the garden was a personification of the spirit possibly Choronzon or a messenger from the Demon on behalf of the Gods another challenge, perhaps the answer to why the world never ultimately progresses. It is a very dangerous force because it is totally self destructive. Every action has an opposite reaction. Totally sanity provokes madness. Good fortune creates perverse bad luck.
