THE COMPLETE TREE OF LIFE
TWO SEVENTY-SIX
The central philosophy of Liber AL is concealed in the peculiar sequence of characters in II:76: ‘‘4 6 3 8 A B K 2 4 A L G M O R 3 Y X 24 89 R P S T O V A L.’’ It will be noted that there are 28 numbers and letters, and that 28 is the value of WORD and is also the number of days in the lunar cycle; furthermore, this is the 142nd verse of the Book and there is no one word which adds to that value. These observations indicate that this sequence is itself a Word of too great a mystery to have any single equivalent. If we apply the E.Q. to the letters and take the numbers at their face value we get the following equation:
4 6 3 8 A B K 2 4 A (4+6+3+8+1+20+9+2+4+1) = 58 = LIBRA, and HADIT.
L G M O R 3 Y X (2+11+21+7+12+3+15+22) = 93 = SCORPIO, and NATURE
24 89 RPSTOVAL (24+89+12+26+5+24+7+10+1+2) = 200 = MANIFESTATION.
Here are two sets of ten characters divided and united by 93. The first section signifies perfect balance and the last its manifestation by means of 93. The method that zero uses to manifest has been delineated by the Hebrew Tree of Life. The two groups of ten characters are therefore attributed to two Trees with the 93 section in the middle, forming one Complete Tree with roots, trunk, and branches. The Libra-Hadit Tree is perfect and so its Malkuth is placed in Daath (see fig.3,below).

It will be seen that Daath and Geburah on the Perfect Tree have the same value as Yesod on the Tree of manifestation, and that Hod on the Perfect Tree is the same as Malkuth in manifestation. Moreover, on the lower Tree, Kether and Tiphareth have the same value. These values concur with the traditional symbolism of the Hebrew Tree of Life. The Complete Tree of Life, or the Two Trees as it is also called, is the answer to the problem posed in AL I:45-7: ‘‘The Perfect and the Perfect are one Perfect and not two; nay, are none! Nothing is a secret key of this law. Sixty-one the Jews call it; I call it eight, eighty, four hundred & eighteen. But they have the half: unite by thine art so that all disappear.’’ 8, 80 and 418 correspond with the three forms of Nothing described by the Hebrew Qabalists; 418 is also the value of AYE LISTEN TO THE NUMBERS & THE WORDS.
The study of the Hebrew Tree will only give half the story of creation. In the Hebrew system nothing exists beyond Kether except the inexpressible veils of Negative existence. In our system the veils of Negative existence give way to a Perfect Tree of Life. Meditation on this Complete Tree makes all the systems of the psyche work in integrated harmony. This is because there is no negative existence, there is a place for all the energy of the spirit to go thus permitting no leakage of force into spurious negative existence where it can be allowed to breed monsters of Gods who need no justification for their actions. All powers on the Complete Tree justify their actions by being part of the cycle of life, the complete cycle of life. The Tree indicated by II:76 is truly the blueprint upon which any system in human experience can be explained in terms of natural phenomena.
Kenneth Grant postulated the existence of two Trees of Life and it is a tribute to this magickian’s ability that without the Qaballistic key to Liber AL he produced results that parallel some of our own. However, there is a limit to how much accurate information can be gleaned from Astral Contact due to interference from the Lord of Dispersion 93 who gives results that are right for the wrong reasons and wrong for the right reasons. (See Grant’s comments on the works of Lovecraft and A.O. Spare in his ‘‘Typhonian Trilogy’’ for illustrations of this phenomenon). Only pure numbers reveal the truth and it is against pure numbers that astral visions must be checked for their validity. It is against the background of pure numbers that the Class A material must be examined, for without the role of number ‘‘these runes’’ become extremely dangerous, leading one into the minefield of 93. Pure number has always been the way of the magickian and apart from a few diversions into hallucinated art and literature, anything else is always at best mysticism and at worst insanity.
THE CREATION MYTH ACCORDING TO LIBER AL
In AL I:28-30 we find the following account of the Creation: ‘‘None, breathed the light, faint & faery, of the stars, and two. For I am divided for love’s sake, for the chance of union. This is the creation of the world, that the pain of division is as nothing, and the joy of dissolution all.’’ Here, PAIN OF DIVISION = 200 = MANIFESTATION; note that DIVIDE and UNITY = 93, the number which unites and divides the two Trees. The creative process of division for love’s sake is delineated in this composite symbol.
93 is the value of the Word of the Law, Qelhma, and in II:76, ‘‘listen to the numbers & the words,’’ LISTEN=93. The choice of the word ‘listen’ suggests that 93 should be used in connection with the NUMBERS & THE WORDS = 200 = MANIFESTATION - which may be any form of manifestation and not subject to the Law of Thelema. To make manifestation obey Thelemic law 93 is added to the values of each of the characters of the lower Tree, and we get the following numbers:

(4)97; (6)99; (3)96; (8)101; (A)94; (B)113; (K)102; (2)95; (4)97; (A)94. (see fig. 4, below). Incidentally, any number can be added to all the numbers of the Complete Tree to discover the expression of that number in all spheres of existence manifest and unmanifest. It is interesting to note that the addition of the number 2 to the values of the lower Tree brings its total to 220, thus allowing the verses of Liber AL to be attributed to the ten Sephiroth. The most significant numbers are obtained by using 93 since that is the means by which manifestation occurs.

If we return to the description of the creation and look at
the values we find NONE (=60) BREATHED (=117) THE LIGHT (=117). If ‘‘None’’ i.e.
Zero is the equivalent of the Hebrew

then the next word must indicate the number one or Kether. In this case
BREATHED=117=HOOR-PAAR-KRAAT and THE LIGHT, and 117 is the value of Kether on
the Tree of manifestation. ‘‘None’’ is nothing and NOTHING=RA-HOOR-KHUT=97,
which is the value of Kether and Yesod on the Perfect Tree. (Strictly speaking,
NONE= 60=DEATH (FOR DEATH = 97) and this formula relates to LGMOR 3 YX = 93 =
SCORPIO, the House of Death, but we are discussing the verse in terms of the
Minor Adept’s understanding. The NONE=DEATH formula relates to 8 = 3 and is
experienced by the 7 = 3 in his ordeal).
ABRAHADABRA
RA HOOR KHUT = 97 = NOTHING and its reward is ABRAHADABRA=79=HEAVEN. An examination of the word Abrahadabra was essential in testing the symbolism of the Two Trees since 97 is the value of Kether and Yesod on the perfect Tree. (It is very unwise to approach these words with any preconceived ideas derived from the work of Crowley and his followers. Crowley knew very little about the true meaning of Liber AL, as he himself was inclined to admit in his less desperate moments.) The word Abrahadabra appears three times in AL: ‘‘Abrahadabra; the reward of Ra Hoor Khut.’’ (III:1); ’’..then this circle squared in its failure is a key also. And Abrahadabra.’’ (III:47); and ‘‘The ending of the words is the Word Abrahadabra.’’ (III:75). The
eleven letters of the word are in three parts: ABRA=34 HAD=11 ABRA=34. Had is the manifestation of Nuit as Nu is the hiding of Hadit. (The word ‘it’ may be read as a suffix, referring to the identity or ego (‘i’) of a GOD=24=T). Nuit the Great Goddess manifests Herself in HAD=11 which is 1 and 1 or one and one where ONE=46=WOMAN. Nuit’s manifestation is therefore a division into two goddesses. The concepts of the Goddess Nuit are an emphatic Zero: NUIT=78 where 7=O or Zero, and 8 or ¥ is infinity, meaning that Nuit is Nothing to Infinity. 97=NOTHING and PISCES, indicating via the symbolism of the Fish that the essential nature of the ideas resonated by the numbers 97 and 79 is that of female sexuality. 7 is the number of the Goddess and 9 the number of Yesod which rules the sex organs. We may conclude that Abrahadabra and Ra Hoor Khut refer to the divine sexuality that unites and divides the Goddess, or more correctly they are the names of the generative organs of the Goddess as seen on two different planes. This is born out by the fact that Abrahadabra begins and ends the third chapter and is referred to as a secret key. This conclusion is further confirmed by the word REWARD=59, the value of YONI, a word found elsewhere in the class A material.
ABRA=34=TWO and LEO, and HAD=11, so that the word may be sigilised as bIIb or 2II2. Looking at the values of the 93 section, LGMOR3YX = 2,11,21,7,12,3,15,22, we find 2112 in the middle on either side of the letter O. As we have noted, this letter is interchangeable with Zero so that our sigil becomes 21012. In the centre of the 93 section, Nothing or Zero is divided and creation takes place. Thus we find that Abrahadabra is the sigil of creation - naturally, if it is the ENDING(=93) of the words it must also be the beginning, (BEGIN=93) and bIIb is refined to
)II( to incorporate the shape of the symbol of Pisces, i (see below).
MANIFESTATION
The Perfect Tree manifests from O in LGMOR3YX; there are 3 characters on one side and 4 on the other. If there were 3 or 4 characters on both sides of Nothing then manifestation could not occur, because Nothing would be balanced. (See the Judgement Hall of Osiris for details). With the number 97=NOTHING appearing twice on the Perfect Tree as well, we have the three forms of Nothing indicated by AL I:46 ’’..eight, eighty, four hundred & eighteen.’’
HAD=11=G. In the manuscript of II:76 the letter G
is written as
. It is the first symbol upwards from
the Abrahadabra-Ra Hoor Khut complex. This shape represents the entrance into
Nothing, the pathway between being and non-being. One may conclude that Had is
expelled upwards from the sex organs of Nuit. The letter which follows is L=2.
This duality is already prefaced in the number eleven.
Below the 2112 formula we find the unmanifest of the Lower Tree, consisting of 3=W, Y=15, X=22, which are the equivalents of the Hebrew Ain Soph Aur, Ain Soph, and Ain. The three nothings have become three somethings, three interferences in non-existence have produced in their turn three dimensions or directions (Y), which generate a fourth expressed in the cross (X) which as all Qabalists know is resumed as a symbol on every sphere of the Middle Pillar. The numerical value of X is 22, the number of paths on the manifest Tree of Life.
117 is the value of Kether on the Tree of manifestation where 1=ONE=WOMAN and 7 is the number of Venus the Goddess of Love. This means that manifestation begins with the Goddess, divided for love’s sake into two Women (1 and 1) and a Goddess (7). 117 is the value of GEMINI, `, which is the sign of the Zodiac attributed to the Tarot Trump the Lovers. In his Thoth Tarot Crowley places two female figures at the top of the card, and in his ‘Book of Thoth’ states that ‘‘in its original form, it was the story of Creation.’’ The card is also known as the Brothers which is why the women of the A.’. A.’. are said to be the brothers of that order.
This apparent duality is repeatedly resumed in the system of the Two Trees. The creation partakes of the nature of its creator. The unmanifest Kether has the number 97 which is the value of Pisces,
i, another ‘double’ Zodiacal sign. As we have shown, the word Abrahadabra resumes the characters at the centre of the 93 section in the numbers 2112. )II( recalls the shapes of Pisces and Gemini; LEO=34=TWO and SHE: the word of the source of creation is again emphatically two females.These two Women of Gemini are pure negative concepts. The influence from on high causes them to change in accordance with the Will of the unmanifest. The traditional lightning flash of the Hebrew system cannot work as there is no real interplay of forces on the Tree. The true course of manifestation takes two directions at once. This is the real reason why the diagonal across the Tree is the upper power on a lower arc. Where the two Women meet they form a cross, creating a male power. In maths and physics two negatives make a positive: - x - = +. Two negatives make a positive, a positive and a negative make a negative; but two positives (male) can never make a negative (female). The most basic phenomena of maths and physics confirms the supremacy of the female. Woman, because of her negative polarity, is capable of creation, as well as reproduction.
CREATION THEORY
The creation process is represented graphically as follows:

The Goddess alone, the primal negativity, divided herself into two negatives, which then combined again to produce a positive particle, a God. The purpose and function of this God-child is to perform His Mother’s will: he is after all the positive manifestation of the Will of the Goddess. In action the positive particle becomes unstable, implementing changes in accordance with its destiny which is ultimately to return to the Zero state. The positive particle is symbolised by the equal-armed cross, and the unstable positive particle is symbolised by the Calvary cross. The positive particle is Hadit, the infinitely small disturbance in space, the slight imperfection without which the Universe would cease to exist. The process by which change occurs is symbolised by 93, which ensures that the unexpected will always happen, that the impossible will become necessary. The old concept of only one Tree of Life is untenable because nothing could happen in manifestation beyond the production of the amoeba - a single celled creature. This is obvious, as a system going from zero to manifestation could only produce this without periodic interference from beyond, i.e., from 93. This is the formula of how an idea must ultimately obsess a medium, the basis upon which the magic of manifestation works. Incidentally, this theory explains how the preparation by dilution of a homeopathic remedy works, a process which is utterly inexplicable by science.
The principle behind this creation process is that an infinitely small particle in Nothing or a neutral medium will ultimately obsess it. There are two ways in which things come into being - Creation or Reproduction. Science is concerned with reproduction. Creation is concerned with an infinitely small particle’s capacity to obsess a medium. The creation principle says that the less you use the more powerful the effect. Science says the more you use the greater the effect. On the one hand it does not take much material to create an atom but the universe is made from atoms. Yet it takes lots of molecules (reproduction) to make a gram of material. Make the atom and let the molecules take care of themselves. Whether the medium be a glass of water, a person, a space, or the universe, the quantity used is so small that it cannot produce an opposing force and therefore can meet no resistance: as in the case of homeopathy. It is the twist of cosmic improbability that gave rise to life on this planet in the beginning, and continues to nurture and sustain it in all its outrageously varied beauty.
The most basic phenomenon of maths and physics confirms this principle. A negative multiplied by a negative gives a positive - two Goddesses produce a God. It is an irrefutable law that a positive in any equation cannot produce a negative without the intervention of a negative quality. This proves the superiority of the female, or at the very least proves that she was around before God. This formula is easily illustrated. Wherever two similar phenomena exist together they are divided by a single though quite different phenomenon. Our most essential molecule, water, is composed of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom. Hydrogen itself, the simplest atom, consists of an electron orbiting a proton and a neutron. Two eyes are separated by a nose; roots and branches of a tree are separated by the trunk, and so on. The state of Matrimony used to consist of the husband and two females, the wife and Mother Church, but now that the credibility and relevance of the religious establishment has crumbled the divorce rate is climbing and the structures of relationships are becoming confused.
The origin of the universe can only ever be described poetically. In the beginning there must have been absolutely nothing, a concept that can only be poetical because there is no concept in science that can delineate Nothing. To comprehend Nothing one must become nothing. Nobody, either physically through science or poetically through mysticism, nobody has ever comprehended the ultimate nature of Nothing. If in the beginning there was Nothing then there would still be nothing, unless that Nothing had a tendency to become Something other than nothing. This suggests that Nothing must have some quality or property - which is a contradiction in terms - and yet it must be true. The ultimate divinity must have been Nothing with the possibility of becoming Something: in which case the ultimate Zero is in a perpetual state of becoming, and that is as close to the beginning of things that you can get. All ancient ideas of the Supreme Being resume the concept of becoming rather than being. If Nothing is to become Something then that something must be less than nothing - it must still have the quality of nothingness, or the complete absence of phenomena that is negativity. The negative to the minds of the ancients in more cultured times was feminine. To suggest that there were physical scientific laws existing at the moment of creation is as naive as saying that the origin of creation according to the Bible is true, because there was nothing to define these laws. To posit a creation without characteristics as science tries to do is clearly silly because nothing would always remain nothing. It is equally silly to suggest that the universe was created from a big bang because at the beginning of the universe there was no space for a big bang to extend into, time did not exist, and there was nothing to destroy - so why a big bang, why should the creator have a nervous breakdown before he or she thought anything to get nervous about? What evidence in nature is there for a big bang as a formula of creation? Events quite often end with a big bang, but nothing in nature begins with a big bang. Nature works gently and with precision when she creates. She destroys dramatically and sometimes explosively but only to put something else in place. It is hardly likely that having created particles in a particular way the creator should give up the formula and go for an up to date solution to everything by blowing it all up. No, the Big Bang theory is an attempt to interpret creation in terms of twentieth century barbarism. It works on the principle of "we don’t know what it is, so let’s blow it up anyway." It is not about the beginning of the universe at all but an attempt to understand the behaviour of particles after creation. The beginning of the universe is synonymous with the creation of the original fundamental particles and their subsequent behaviour. Two negative forces of unknown magnitude contracted in on themselves until they united and left negative existence, their unity creating a positive force that was instantly repelled by this immense negativity: an expansion outwards of two united negatives and a positive in Nothing. To all intents and purposes this positive force defines God. Now we have the possibility of a big bang because we now have the building blocks of atoms or energy tending toward change.
The Son of God must have been created in the same way as God. God was probably a bit peeved that there were already three females, Zero and two negatives, and only one of him, and so he eventually complained to the Goddesses that he was alone and lonely, and he demanded a Son. The Goddesses, ever accommodating, created a son of God, or in scientific parlance, an unstable positive particle, whose destiny is to ultimately return to the Zero state. The slight imperfection of this unstable proton, an infinitely small disturbance in space, was responsible for the kicking off of space and time. In the beginning perfection went perversely wrong resulting in the creation of the universe.
The idea that a God made woman from the rib of Adam is ridiculous, he was never equipped to do it. God would have had a hard time making woman out of man because there was nothing there that he could make her from. But the idea that the Goddesses made man from her clitoris makes sense, giving him an enormous one between his legs to remind him who his mistresses were. The human male is no problem, all they had to do was make the clitoris bigger, and turn sexuality inside out, and they got a man; a pretty confused creature indeed, but one capable of amusing a woman and through her, the Goddess, indefinitely. One can well imagine Astarte, Persephone, Isis, and the other great Goddesses creating a man but there are no Gods to my knowledge who could really get it together to create anything as incredible as a woman. If we look at reality with an unbiased view we can only conclude that the beauty of a woman must be of the most supremely divine origin. In ancient mystery schools it was said that the genitals of a woman were a kiss of the Goddess imprinted between her legs. The penis is nothing more than an elongated clitoris, man nothing more than a dream of the Goddess using all her attributes of pleasure.
The concept of two Goddesses creating a God or two negatives creating a positive is intrinsic to all creation myths. The supreme Goddess divided herself for love’s sake. Love is fundamental to the nature of creation, it is the basis of reproduction and manifestation. Humanity does everything for love of something or other. Love in this sense means the tendency to unite through similarity or singularity. The creation of things from nothing must be happening now because the process of creation is still going on all around us all the time, it has not stopped. This is such a good trick that the deity is not going to throw it away, but use it in the structure and nature of everything: everything in existence must continuously rehearse the imprint of the formula that originally created the universe.
